Named alter the whales which pass nearby, Costa Ballena is Jose-Maria Olazabal's second golf course design in Andalucia. He has provided a long layout with enormous tees and large greens. Water comes into play on a number of the holes and on the par-3 16th the green is an island virtually marooned by a lake. The club has also opened a further nine holes, making it 27 in all.
Costa Ballena is part of a rapidly growing 800 - acre estate located on a wide expanse of Atlantic white sandy beach in Rota. There is an enormous practice range and a handsome nine - hole short course.
How to get there
From El Puerto de Santa Maria, take the highway towards Rota and once you are past this town take the road towards Chipiona (CA-604). The course is about 8 kilometres from Rota.
